Students are expected to maintain consistent attendance during our school year.
School hours are from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. each day.
Parents are asked to call our school office at 773-535-0585 before 8:15 a.m. to report a student absence and provide a reason for the absence. If we do not receive notification of an absence, parents will receive an automatic call notification from CPS to inform them of their child’s absence during the school day.
A valid student absence is one due to illness, observance of a religious holiday, death in the immediate family, family emergency, situations beyond the student’s control as determined by the building administrators, or such other circumstances that cause reasonable concern to the parent or guardian for the student’s safety or health. Students must return to school with a hardcopy note including a parent or guardian’s signature to identify the nature of the absence. Notes should be given to the student’s homeroom teacher (emails are not acceptable).
Students absent without valid cause for regular attendance days are considered truant. Students with five days of unexcused absences are considered chronically truant and will receive written notification from the school.
Students arriving at school after 8:55 a.m. are considered tardy. Students who are tardy miss valuable academic time. Therefore, tardiness can be cause for disciplinary action. Your cooperation in observing this policy will lead to continued success for your child. Students with chronic tardiness will warrant a parent/teacher/administration conference, and a misconduct report will be issued.
Students may not leave school during the regular school day without being signed out in the main office by a parent or guardian. Permission is granted in the case of illness, injury, medical appointments that cannot be scheduled during nonschool hours, or family emergencies.
